Board Meeting

The Annual Organizational Meeting and the next regular meeting of the Hope School District Board of Trustees will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 6:30 pm in the Hope District Board Room.


 
California Healthy Kids Survey

Students in Grades 5 and 6 will be asked to participate in the California Healthy Kids Survey during the month of November. Participation in the survey is voluntary. Results of the survey will help improve health education and prevention programs for all students. Please contact your child's school with any questions.

Information for Parents and Community

Negotiations With Certificated Employees

Update: HDTA negotiators Janis Spracher, David Nelson, and Theana Earls, CTA representative Cindy Heller, and the District negotiation team of Board President Brian Johnson, Board Member Dan Cunnison, Principal Barbara LaCorte, and Superintendent Anne Hubbard met on October 31, 2018, to discuss the 2018-19 Collective Bargaining Agreement. Information regarding the requests from HDTA is attached. The teams will meet again in December or January to continue negotiations for 2018-19.

Cyber Safety Presentation
Officer Beth Lazarus of the Santa Barbara Police Department presented a Cyber Safety Parent Education Night on May 25 at Monte Vista School.

Bond Oversight Committee Members Needed

The Hope ESD Bond Oversight Committee is in need of members. This committee meets ONE time a year. The committee reviews any bond funds spent in order to make sure the expenditures are used only for the voter approved projects.

The committee needs 7 members from a variety of backgrounds:
• One (1) member active in a business organization representing the business community located in the District.
• One (1) member active in a senior citizen’s organization.
• One (1) member active in a bona-fide taxpayers association.
• One (1) member shall be a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the District.
• One (1) member shall be both a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the district and active in a parent-teacher organization or school site council.
• Two (2) members of the community at-large appointed by the Board.

CAASPP Assessments

Students in grades 3-6 will participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) during April and May, 2018.

Report Cards

The first report cards for the 2017-18 school year will be sent home soon. The report cards are a similar version of the standards-based report cards implemented last year, which reflect student progress towards meeting the main grade-level standards. An overview of the report card marks is provided in the following superintendent's letter.

Transitional Kindergarten
The Hope School District offers a Transitional Kindergarten program for students who will have their fifth birthday between September 2 and December 2, 2018.

Local Educational Agency Plan Addendum

Master Plan for English Learners
The Santa Barbara County Master Plan for English Learners was developed by the Santa Barbara County Co-Op and provides a formal structure for program implementation and evaluation. The plan is available here for review.

Smarter Balanced Tests
The Smarter Balanced tests are expected to replaced the STAR tests in English-Language Arts and Math beginning in the 2014-15 school year.  Practice tests are now available.

Open Enrollment Policy
The recent passage of the Open Enrollment Act requires districts to adopt a policy for interdistrict attendance under the Open Enrollment Act.
