BELIEF STATEMENTS

 

Our mission is to develop in children the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to instill a lifelong love of learning and to become productive and contributing individuals in a changing society.

 

We believe that:

  • Everyone can learn and be successful.
  • Each student is entitled to the highest quality of educational opportunities.
  • Academics are the cornerstone of education; progress is evident in a child’s social behavior, demonstrable academic skills, self-esteem, and enthusiasm for learning.
  • Education promotes personal and social responsibility, and a spirit of cooperation.
  • Positive and nurturing classroom environments are necessary.
  • Education is the shared responsibility of the student, parent, school, community, and government.

Board Meeting

Kindergarten Registration
Fall 2014 Kindergarten registration for students who live within the Hope District attendance area and will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2014 will take place in February 2014.

Transitional Kindergarten
The Hope School District offers a Transitional Kindergarten program for students who will have their fifth birthday between October 2 and December 2, 2013.  For the 2014-15 school year, Transitional Kindergarten will be offered for students who will have their fifth birthday between September 2 and December 2, 2014.

Local Control Accountability Plan
The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a required document that each California school district must prepare under new state budget laws. The LCAP is designed to describe the program and expenses the district undertakes to provide an educational program that meets the wide range of student needs. To develop the plan, our district has convened a representative advisory committee that includes parents, teachers, and administrators. A draft of the plan is available for review and comment. It is a working document, and the draft will reflect periodic revisions. Teachers, parents, and community members are invited to comment on the draft. You are welcome to share your comments and suggestions for the LCAP with the superintendent at (805) 682-2564, or by email: dcooperman@hopeschooldistrict.org

Smarter Balanced Tests
The Smarter Balanced tests are expected to replaced the STAR tests in English-Language Arts and Math beginning in the 2014-15 school year.  Practice tests are now available.

Open Enrollment Policy
The recent passage of the Open Enrollment Act requires districts to adopt a policy for interdistrict attendance under the Open Enrollment Act.

Education Protection Account

The Board of Trustees adopted Resolution 12/13-14 Regarding the Education Protection Account (EPA) on May 13, 2013. Proposition 30 requires any district receiving EPA funds to post how it spends those monies on its website.

Economic Impact Aid
SB 754 requires school districts to post Economic Impact Aid (EIA) expenditures and related fiscal information on their website as a condition of receipt for future EIA funding. This posting must be in compliance with certification rules in the Consolidated Application related to this requirement. The posting includes financial data for fiscal years 2011-12 and 2012-13.
